Ditch Diets, Eat Healthy!

I’ve been struggling to lose weight ever since I was a child. Each year my parents would put me on another diet. Atkins, Ketogenic, Zone, Vegetarian, Vegan, Weight Watchers, South Beach, Raw Food; you name the diet and I’ve tried it! I’ve gone through every possible diet fad that emerged. Did anything work? Did I lose weight, you ask? Nope, nada, zilch, no. Dieting didn’t help me. It helped me lose the kilos for a few weeks but the moment I went back to regular food, they ran back and jumped right back on me, as if we had a relationship across lifetimes. All that dieting did, was give me weight that would yo-yo, dull skin, falling hair and brittle nails. And they left me feeling hungry, tired, irritated and depressed. So what was a woman to do?

Eventually I left home to pursue my career. I had given up on losing weight. I had accepted defeat in the battle against the bulge. Now my priority was staying healthy. Being away from home, there was nobody to take care of me if I fell sick. Nor could I afford to take leaves, lose pay or afford doctors. So I started focusing on becoming fit by walking regularly and eating healthy. I reduced eating junk food and started snacking on fruits, raw vegetables and dry fruit. I never said no to sweets or chocolates but controlled the amount I ate. Every night, I would eat a small square piece of chocolate, as a reward if I had been able to stick to my healthy eating throughout the day and had gone for a walk.

Four months later, while out shopping with my friends, they bullied me into trying a dress. I was very embarrassed since I had never worn a dress because of my weight. Surprisingly, it fit and I looked good in it. I had lost weight without even realising it. All I had done was eat healthy, walk regularly for half an hour everyday and stopped worrying about my weight. More than crazy diets, eating healthy can help lose weight in a better, healthier manner.
